Another Hip Hop Party Breeds Another Tragedy
Attending parties thrown by hip hop stars might be as healthy as taking a nap on Interstate 95 during rush hour traffic. You may get through it unharmed, but the odds may not be in your favor.
Last week, there was a shooting at a party thrown by super producer Jermaine Dupri in Atlanta. This week, a woman has been alledgedly beaten to death at a New York birthday party held Sunday for flamboyant rapper Lil’ Kim. In attendance were other hip hop celebrities including Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean, and basketball star, Lamar Odom.
The woman, 24 year old Ingrid Rivera, had been reported missing since last being seen at the Spotlight Live club in Manhattan, where bouncers escorted her out for being drunk. She never returned home from the event, and her family filed a missing person’s report, according to a New York police spokesman. Police had no leads after searching a Midtown karoke club, but a maintenance man at the Spotlight Live found her body in a rooftop utility room on Wednesday.
The Grammy Award winning Lil’ Kim, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, is no stranger to controversy. In 2005, she served a year and a day in prison when she was found guilty of conspiracy and perjury after lying to a grand jury about her friends’ involvement in a 2001 shooting. She’s also been know as much throughout her career for her daring on stage wardrobe, or various stages on undress.
