Terrence Howard struggled for years to be recognized by his peers as a respectable actor. Now, after achieving “A-List” credibility on the silver screen, he wants to do the same with his music.

Howard proved that he had the big screen presence to carry a movie and the vocal chops to carry a tune with his Academy Award nominated performance in the John Singleton film, “Hustle and Flow”. But his new album,  ”Shine Through It”, reveals a much more introspective side of the heart-throb actor, who at times has been perceived as arrogant. But the music on his debut album has a much softer side than his in your face acting.

“Shine Through It” is a compilation of the musical influences that Howard feels has had an impact on his emotional development. He weaves jazzy beats and island rythems into mellow soft rock songs that he either wrote or co-wrote. He is a self taught musician, and even play guitar on some of the tracks.

”Music has always been the road that leads to where I’m headed. Film is my vocation, my 9 to 5. In the movies, I’m doing what somebody else is asking me to do,” Howard tell People Magazine. “Music is my own personal form of expression. My responsibility, like the sun’s, is to shine. Even if the planet is covered with clouds, I must say what I have to say.”
