It’s easy to find the spicey “dish” on celebrities. Daily dirt can be found on almost any entertainment blog or website. But it’s refreshing when, as a celebrity blogger, you can find something positive to write about, and today just happens to be one of those days.
Oprah Winfrey lead the list of the top celebrity philantropists by giving away more than $50 million to various causes, including education, health care, and women and childrens advocacy programs. She donated the monies through The Oprah Winfrey Foundation and Oprah’s Angels Network, and is very involved in the selection process of where the money goes.
Herb Alpert, formerly of “Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass” and co-founder of A&M Records was second on the list, giving away $13 million on education.
Others on the list include; Barbara Streisand, show is third on the list, donating $11 million to causes such as womens issues, civil rights, and AIDS research. In fourth place is Paul Newman, who donated $10 million to a scholarship at his alma mater, Kenyon University, in Ohio. And in fith place is Mel Gibson, who donated $9.9 million to the Holy Family Church in Malibu, CA.
The list was compiled by “The Giving Back Fund”, and is being published in the latest issue of People magazine.
