Super Bowl XLIII Dominates Entertainment News

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Arizona Cardinals face-off today in the mega-hyped Super Bowl XLIII. Historically, the game, which is being played in Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium, draws as much attention to it’s half-time extravaganza and zany television ads as it does for the game itself, and this Super Bowl appears to be no different.

The main attraction of course is football. The Steelers, who bullied their way into the big game with unforgiving defense and a an offense which simply seems to do what’s needed to win, can potentially win it’s sixth Super Bowl, more than any other team.

On the other hand, the Cardinals surprised everyone just by making it to “the show”. They did it by winning games that no one expected them to win, with high-powered offense and trick plays, and with their best players coming through for them in clutch situations.

Halftime entertainment is being performed by “The Boss” himself, Bruce Springsteen. Jennifer Hudson, who is making an emotional appearance after losing her mother, brother, and nephew tragically last year, has been tapped to sing the National Anthem prior to kick-off.

The ads are expected to be as outrageous as they’ve been in past Super Bowls, but the biggest advertising splash may have been made by one that NBC says is too splashy for prime-time. The ad, one by PETA, extols the benefits of eating vegan, one of which being increased sexuality. The sexy ad was pulled by the network, but has gained popularity on PETA’s website.

Check out the PETA ad below:
