Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson To Star in “Iron Man 2″
Mickey Rourke and Scarlett Johansson have been added to beef up the star power of Marvel’s upcoming “Iron Man 2″. The film’s growing cast already star’s Robert Downey Jr. as the title character, along with other A-list actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, and Tim Robbins.
Rourke, whose career has suddenly been resurrected since his oscar nominated performance in “The Wrestler”, will play the Russian villian, Whiplash. Though rumors of his association with the fiolm have been bouncing around for weeks, his management had been working on improving the $250,000 payment for his involvement. New details indicates that he has signed a deal with a considerable pay increase, though the amount of the increase has not been released.
Johansson will play Natasha Romanoff, the Black Widow. Not much info is given about her character, but judging by the name, It’s a good bet that her character is also Russian.
Jackson and Cheadle appear to be getting the most milage from their comic book characters. Jackson, playing Nick Fury, already has two other gigs lined up as the character. He’ll appear in “Thor”, which is already in pre-production. And he’ll play the title character in “Nick Fury” which is shooting for a 2010 release.
Cheadle, who is replacing Terrence Howard as Col. James Rhodes, will also play that character in “The Avengers”, which is shooting for a 2011 relase.
