Kal Penn has been playing Dr. Lawrence Kutner of the Fox Television hit “Hous” for the past two years, but but his latest role has nothing to do with acting. Penn has accepted a position in President Barack Obama’s White House, and his new title will be Associate Director in the Office of Public Liasion.

Penn, who actively campaigned for the president, says that he has always had a desire to work in serve the public. After campaigning for Obama in Iowa last year, Penn says he “started thinking I have this passion for something in public service. If Obama wins, I’d like to continue working in public service.”

Penn, 31, began acting while attending UCLA, and though featured in a number of low budget films, didn’t hit it big until he played a stoner in “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle”. He has also performed roles on “NYPD Blue”, and “Law and Order: Special Victems Unit”.

The actor says he was surprised when told how his character will exit “House”. His caracter will commit suicide.

I’m guessing the producers aren’t expecting him back.
