Zac Efron’s “17 Again” Trumps Miley Cyrus’ “Hanna Montanna” At The Box Office
Teen star Zac Ephorn finally breaks free of his “High School Musical” days by landing a new weekend hit with “17 Again”. Ephron’s new comedy trumps his former Disney mate, Miley Cyrus, whose “Hanna Montana: The Movie” drops from first to fourth place at the box office this week.
Ephron’s film is a high school based comedy about a middle aged man whose life did not turn out exactly the way he wanted. After wishing to change it, he magically awakens one morning transformed back into a 17 year old. Zephron plays the lead role, and Mathew Perry plays the older character.
Though Disney’s “High School Musical” film series has catapulted Efron into an international celebrity, the new film is expected to launch his adult acting career by proving his box office draw, and giving him greater range as an actor. For Perry, it seems more of an attempt to re-launch a career that has faltered since the television hit, “Friends”.
The Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck drama, “State of Play” took the number 2 spot over the weekend, and the animated “Monsters vs. Aliens” came in at number 3. Vin Diesel’s reprise of “Fast and Furious” rounds out the top five.
